Some proposals with regard to footnotes:
1. in the present version of Papyrus, footnotes can only be numbered page by page, or continuously, throughout the document. Numbering of footnotes by sections (chapters, paragraphs etc.) would be a very welcome addendum especially for those among us who like managing an entire thesis or book as one single document.
2. in Papyrus and in almost all other wordprocessors I know, footnotes can only be arranged vertically. The only exception is Nisus Pro, which has the option of horizontal arrangement: very convenient especially in case of numerous brief footnotes, which inevitably leave large amounts of white space on the printed page.
3. in Papyrus and in almost all other wordprocessors I know, only one stream of footnotes can be created. The only exception here is Mellel, which offers the possibility to create any desired number of footnote streams (as long as they fit on the page, of course). Very convenient for the academics among us.

Since I posted my comment on horizontal arrangement of footnotes(read below) I have done some experiment and find it works quite well if, after having made one footnote on a page, I then write the rest of the footnotes manually within this first footnote.
Of course, if I change page size, margins or add text somewhere, I have to check them up again, in case they have moved to a wrong page. Otherwise it works just fine, and looks much better. Also, I think it is easier to do this in Papyrus than in some other word processors.

I agree that these are excellent proposals I'm just working with a document with lots of short footnotes and understand exactly what you mean with horizontal arrangement. Papyrus would really shine with this function.
Footnotes at the end of chapters is sometimes almost a must. Maybe it is possible to copy them into a textframe at the end of each chapter? I haven't tried that myself yet.
